Howard Garrison, 85, of Oak Ridge passed away in his home
October 7, 2008 after a 2 year battle with multiple Myeloma.
Born in Huntsville, AL March 1, 1923 to the late Polie and Della Henley
Garrison. He was raised in Middle Tennessee, and joined the Civil
Conservation Corp and the US Army where he served in WWII. He worked as a
mail carrier, bus driver, and pool hall owner prior to settling in Oak Ridge
in 1950 with his wife Ola Mae Goff Garrison. Mr. Garrison began his career
at Union Carbide in 1949 where he spent his time as guard, welder, welding
inspector, and shop supervisor. He retired in 1982 after 33 years of
service. Mr. Garrison had a hobby shop sharpening saws, and scissors for his
neighbors and friends, thus becoming known as the “Saw Man”. He was an
active member of the Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge of Oak Ridge. Preceded
in death by his wife of 50 years, Ola Mae, brother, Ivan, son-in-law, Jack
England. Survivors include: daughter Charlotte England, brother, Gene
Garrison, grandchildren, Lisa England, Spencer England and wife Freida,
great-grandchildren, Brittany and Jack England, and special friend, Irene
McNeely.
The funeral will be Friday October 10, 2008 at 7:00pm in the chapel of
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at Saturday
October 11, 2008 10:00 am at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens. The family will
receive friends from 5-7 Friday at the funeral home.
