Grace Hinkle Gibson, age 90, mother of Judy Gibson
Cochran went to be with the Lord March 26, 2009 at Briarcliff Health Care.
Grace was born January 16, 1919 in Roan Mountain, Tennessee to the late
Joseph and Verda Roberts Hinkle. Mrs. Gibson and her husband, Millard James
Gibson, now deceased, came to Oak Ridge in 1945. Grace and Millard were
married for 62 years before his passing in 2003. Upon coming to Oak Ridge,
they both joined First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). For many
years she was a homemaker. However, at a time when most people would be
retiring she began a successful business, Caps by Grace, which she operated
for many years. During this time she and Millard traveled extensively
throughout Europe, North America, and Asia.
Grace loved to cook and quilt. She was also an avid bowler. In her later
years she became a huge sports fan, following the careers of Peyton Manning
and pat Summitt. Her family described her as a wonderful wife, mother,
grandmother, and great grandmother.
In addition to her parents Grace is preceded in death by her husband, two
brothers, and four sisters.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by her daughter, Judy Gibson Cochran and her husband
William L. Cochran, Sr., of Oak Ridge: a grandson William L. Cochran, Jr.,
of Knoxville; a granddaughter Wendy Cochran Schubert and her husband
Michael, of Kingston; a great grandson Morgan Schubert, of Kingston; a
brother-in-law, Stan Sosnowski, of Oak Ridge; sister-in-law Mildred Gibson,
of Elizabethton, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Monday March 30, 2009 2:00pm at Oak Ridge
Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 at
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.
