Funeral services for Rebecca “Becky” H. Gibson will be
held at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home, Friday, December 12, the family will
receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home followed
by the service in the funeral home chapel and interment in the family plot
at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Minister Johnny Fox of the Holladay Church
of Christ in Cookeville, Tennessee, where Rebecca was a member, will conduct
the services.
Rebecca Hamilton Gibson died on Monday, December 8, 2008. She is survived by
many loving relatives and friends.
Rebecca was born on May 28, 1957 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She spent her
childhood in Oak Ridge and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1975. She
furthered her education at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, where she
earned her degree in Microbiology. She later earned her MBA at Tennessee
Technology University in Cookeville, Tennessee. After graduating from UT,
Rebecca moved to Cookeville, Tennessee where she was a long time resident.
An avid UT sports fan, she was herself a great outdoors person, hunting,
fishing whenever possible, and enjoying her country home in Cookeville and
her animals there.
Ms. Gibson had recently returned to live in Oak Ridge and was employed with
LabCorp at the University of Tennessee Hospital as a Microbiologist. Her
previous employment included the State of Tennessee and Cookeville General
Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Henry “Jack” Gibson, Sr., her
brother John Henry Gibson, Jr., and by her stepfather, Seymour “Sy” Levin.
She is survived by her mother Dorothy “Dot” DeBerry Levin of Oak Ridge; her
sisters, Jane Gibson of Kingston and Claudia Simpson and husband, Lynn, and
their son, John “Jack” Simpson of Harriman, and sister-in-law, Lil Gibson of
Weeki Wachee, Florida. Also surviving Ms. Gibson are stepbrothers and
stepsisters, Steve Levin and family of Clayton, North Carolina; Natalie
Levin and fiancé Dennis Coohill of New York City; Charles Levin and wife,
Annette, of Knoxville, and Margaret Levin of Boston. Aunts and an uncle who
survive her are Maxine and Bill Vaden of Oak Ridge, Edith Jones of
Bloomington Springs, Tennessee, and Nelle Evans of Joelton, Tennessee.
Special friends include Bronda and Dean Hagood of Cookeville,
Tennessee.Pallbearers will be Lynn Simpson, Charles Levin, Steve Levin,
Dennis Coohill, Bill Jones, Forrest Evans, Dean Hagood, and Curtis Walters.
