Caroline Prizer Hoffman, as Oak Ridge resident for many years, died Tuesday, December 2, at Windwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton. Born in Medford, Massachusetts on January 11, 1910 , to William Flaville Prizer and Laura Grant Prizer. Her family moved to the Chicago area and her schooling was in Evanston, Illinois. She attended Northwestern University, and later a secretarial school. She worked as a secretary in the Chicago area and in New York City.
One day she decided to take a cruise to Alaska. That ended up in her marriage to Everett John Hoffman. They were married for 62 years. Her husband died in 2004. Their daughter Laura, was born while her parents were living in Chicago. The family moved to Oak Ridge in 1950. She was active in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. She was an Altar Guild member, a member of the Women’s Guild, and served as secretary for the Vestry. She traveled with her husband extensively. Her two younger brothers, Bill and Grant, died several years ago. She was survived by her daughter Laura Hoffman of Nashville and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, December 9, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Craig M. Kallio officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church 212 N. Tulane Ave. Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or the Oak Ridge Humane Society.
