John Lawrence Jayne, age 93 formerly of Oak Ridge,
passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Parkwest Medical Center.
Mr. Jayne was born October 24, 1914, in Wayne, AK, to Lilburn C. and Harriet
Catherine Maiden Jayne.
He was a member of the New York Avenue Church of Christ. Mr. Jayne lived a
simple life enjoying his family, yard work, a good joke, and congregational
singing at church.
He strongly believed in higher education. He served in the U.S. Navy during
World War II. Mr. Jayne retired as a wholesale hardware salesman from Orgill
Brothers & Co. in Memphis, TN.
Mr. Jayne was preceded in death by his parents his devoted wife of nearly 59
years, Evelyn, and five brothers, Howard Jayne, Wesley Jayne, Lester Jayne,
Earl Jayne and Sam Jayne.
A loving father and grandfather, he is survived by his children; son, Dr. J.
Lawrence Jayne, Jr. and wife Janet of Bristol, VA; daughter, Martha
Elizabeth Jayne Smith and husband Mike of Knoxville; grandchildren, John
Jayne, III and wife Rachel, Brian Jayne, Aaron Smith, David Smith, and Mark
Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 7, 2008, from 2 to 3 p.m. in
the chapel of Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Graveside services will follow in the
chapel with Gabe Potter and Harold Scott officiating.
