 Isabella Stewart Kerr, age 90 of Oak Ridge passed away June 2, 2008 at Methodist Medical Center. She was born in New York City February 29, 1918 to James and Helen Stewart. She married James Kerr in 1939 and moved to Oak Ridge in 1945 when her husband went to work on the Manhattan Project. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and were founding member of the Dance of the Month Club. She was also active in Girl Scouts for many years. She served as troop leader, cookie chairman and with the Camp Friendship Day Camp program. After her father’s death in 1961 she started volunteering and later worked as a substitute at Daniel Arthur Rehabilitation Center. She was a lifetime member of the St. Andrew’s Society of East Tennessee. She served on the Oak Ridge Elder Citizen’s Advisory Board for many years. She was also active in the local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. She loved knitting, working crossword puzzles, traveling, cooking and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Kerr, parents James and Helen Stewart, two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by three daughters, Helen Kerr of Lakeville, MN; Jean Curtright and Cathie Ingram of Midtown (Roane County), TN. Seven grandchildren; Camie (Dave) Anderson of MN, Ginnie (Mark) Hoffman of OH, Betsie Mills of MN, Wilson (missy) Mills of MN, Hugh (Karla) Curtright of MD, Amy (Chris) Wilson of TN, and Amanda (Herb) Piercy of TN. Nine great-grandchildren, all of who have enjoyed spending time with her, John and Lauren Anderson, Joseph and David Hoffman, Collier and Ryan Curtright, Drew and Katie Mills and Selena Piercy. Ahost of nieces and nephews across the United States.
The family would like to thank her faithful caregivers Mildred Roysden and Sylvia Lee, Oak Ridge Fire Department first responders/EMT, Anderson County Ambulance service and the staff of Methodist Medical Center. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations to the Salvation Army or the charity of their choice.
There will be a graveside service Saturday June7, 2008 at 10:00 am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday June 6, 2008 for 6-8 at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.
