Phillip Adrian Lamm, age 76 of Knoxville, TN, died January 13, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospice facility after a long illness. Born May 9, 1932 in Castalia, NC to Joseph and Ovie Cooper Lamm. Mr. Lamm grew up on a farm in Franklin County, NC. He was the third child of 10 siblings. Mr. Lamm was a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelors degree in science. He worked for the Oak Ridge Science Museum for 43 years starting in 1957. The first seventeen years was spent traveling around the United States giving lectures and demonstrations in various schools, universities and other science museums including Columbus Museum of Science and Industry. An extremely intelligent man, he would lecture on such subjects as atomic energy, molecular structures, nuclear fusion and electricity. He loved science and was devoted to education.
He was a veteran of the US Army, and a member of the McGee Tyson Armed Forces Club.
An active member in his community, he had been a member of several organizations including the Fraternal Order of the Moose in both Oak Ridge and Knoxville; the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Oak Ridge; and a member of the Oak Ridge Country Club. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Karns.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years Sandra Lamm, two stepdaughters: Meri Jo Grunsted of Ft Myers, FL; Debra Shea of Ocala, FL; two brothers and four sisters
There will be a memorial service on Saturday at Martin’s Oak Ridge Funeral Home. The Receiving of Friends will be from 2 – 4pm. The Service will be at 4:00. Reception immediately following at the Moose Lodge in Oak Ridge.
Interment will be on Tuesday January 20th at 1:30pm at the Tennessee Veteran’s State Cemetery in Knoxville.
