George Casper Luethge passed away on December 5, 2008 at
1:05 PM after an eight year long battle with complications brought on by
cancer. His son held his hand by his side as Mr. George passed away at
Windwood Golden Living Center in Clinton.
Mr. George moved to Oliver Springs Tennessee from his home in St Louis Mo in
1963 after graduating from Dallas Theological Center and served as interim
pastor of the Oak Ridge Bible Church where he met his future wife, Charlotte
who served as the church secretary. The couple married in the spring of 1968
and moved to Oak Ridge and lived in a family owned Efficiency apartment
complex on W Farragut Rd. The couple moved to Christin Dr in Clinton shortly
after the birth of their only child, Chris, in 1972 and remained there ever
since. Mr.George holds a Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Chemistry from
Missouri Valley College and holds a Masters Degree in Expository Theology
with a Minor in Hebrew from Dallas Theological Seminary. Mr. George served
as a missionary for 47 years and worked for Tennessee Mountain Mission,
based in Dayton Tennessee. He continued his church membership at Hope
Congregational Church in St. Louis, his family's church. He taught old and
young alike throughout his time on Earth and wrote several books. Mr. George
gained renown as the "Bible Story Man" throughout the Anderson, Roane,
Morgan and Campbell County area, taking stories of faith presented on
flannel graph board portraying scenes from the Bible and presented to
children. Mr. George would lead in song with a voice described by some as
comparable to Berle Ives. Throughout his spring and summer months, Mr.
George worked at the Cumberland Springs Bible Camp, a summer camp for
children.
A dedicated father, Mr. George raised his son as a single parent, preceded
in death by his beloved wife Charlotte in 1982, as well as his Brother John
Luethge of St Louis, sister Grace Landsberg of St Louis, Brothers in law
Thomas Ayles and Alva Ayles, both of Oak Ridge. Mr. George is survived by
his only son, Chris Luethge, daughter in law Kristina Luethge of Clinton,
sister Ruth Winkler of St. Louis, Sisters in law Dorthy Kelly Midkiff of Oak
Ridge and Nancy Luethge of St Louis, as well as many nieces and nephews in
the Oak Ridge and St Louis region. Thank you, Dad, you are and always will
be my best friend. I love you.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 10, 2008 8:00pm in the
chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Bunn officiating.
Graveside services will be held Thursday December 11, 2008 2:00pm at
Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday
December 10, 2008 6:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home.
