William Ernest Manrod, III, age 61 of Knoxville passed onto a larger life on October 10, 2008 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. A devoted family man Bill is survived by his wife, Courtney Anne Manrod; sons William Ehren and wife Colleen Manrod, Matthew Philip and wife Jennifer Manrod, Michael Harrison Manrod; step-daughter Amy Leigh and her husband Edward Louis Pennoyer; six grandchildren; and Bill’s sister and her husband, Mary and Gytis Tamulaitis.
Bill earned degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Tennessee. Upon his retirement from a distinguished Civil Engineering career, Bill focused his expertise into security services supporting nuclear non-proliferation.
Bill served in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict. He received a commission in the US Navy, and served during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He went on to command Naval Construction Force Support Unit 3. He retired in 2001 at the rank of Captain.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the many friends for the encouragement provided during Bill’s illness.
The funeral will be conducted Thursday October 16, 2008 at 4:00 PM at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The family will receive friends at home following the funeral service. Burial will be at the East Tennessee State Veterans’ Cemetery on Friday October 17th at 11:30 AM.
