 Donald Lee Redmond went to be with the Lord August 16, 2008 at the age of 79. He was born January 5, 1929 in Sweetwater, TN, attended Roane County high School and the University of Tennessee. In the 1940’s he was employed by Union Carbide of Oak Ridge where he became OCAW International Executive Board Member and Negotiator. He was an active participant of the Democratic Party campaigning door to door for Sen. Estes Kefauver and President John F. Kennedy. During the 60’s he moved to Knoxville, TN where he owned and operated Building Service and maintenance Co. and Southeast Sanitary Supply. While retired, Don enjoyed traveling around the state to various flea markets and spending time with his many friends.
He spent his final days in Roswell, GA surrounded by his devoted family. Preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Claude Redmond of Oak Ridge, sister Lois Redmond Dice and beloved son Patrick Richesin Redmond. Survivors include wife Joanne of Mt. Juliet, TN; Sisters Claudette Redmond of Roswell and Elizabeth Brogdon of Clinton; children Greg and Belinda Redmond, Donna and Craig Molnar, Karen Lee Redmond, Lee Ann and Lee Adkins. Step children Ellen Beauvais and Gary Smithers, grandchildren Richard and Sharon Dowdy, James and Sarah Redmond, Jennifer and Tyler Hughett, Brooke and Bradley Molnar, Carly Redmond-Durst, Jackson Redmond, great-grandchildren Caden and Bethany Dowdy and James Bradley Redmond and several nieces and nephews.
Don will be missed by many who remember his wonderful sense of humor, winning smile, and fighting spirit.
The funeral will be Thursday August 21, 2008 at 8:00 PM in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Stroud officiating. Interment will be Friday at 10:00 AM at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday at the funeral home.
