Dorothy Roark Russ, age 89, died November 5, 2008 at home
in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
She was born April 25, 1919 in Tazewell, Tennessee to Samuel and Margaret
Massengill Roark. Following graduation from Lincoln Memorial University, she
came with her sister to Oak Ridge to work at K-25 as an analyst in the
spectrometer laboratory. There she met her future husband, O. W. Russ. They
married in 1950, and she retired a year later to become a homemaker. She
enjoyed the Women’s Club and served many roles in that organization. A
bowling league participant, Dottie also played tennis and was a pro at
fashion. Dottie’s flair with clothes was only second to her joy and
generosity. Dottie painted watercolors that many family members treasure.
Her passion throughout her life was her yard and gardens, and her neighbors
will long remember the Christmas lights and reindeer. Her trips with her
husband and family provided many happy times.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Fred Roark, Hassie
Walker, Vernon Roark, Marie Flynn, and Helen Clark. Her survivors include
husband Oliver W. Russ, Jr. and cherished nieces and nephews: Jayne May,
Susan McFall, Peggy Fox, Jack Roark, and Bill Roark.
A memorial service will be held Saturday November 8, 2008 1:30pm in the
chapel of Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Mr. Russ requests in lieu of flowers
donations be made to a charity of choice.
