Elva Beatrice Scantlin “Shorty”, age 85 of Oak Ridge passed away Friday December 19, 2008 at the National Health Care Center of Oak Ridge.
Shorty was born March 31, 1923 in Tallahatchie County Mississippi to the late Walter Z. and Nellie Landrum Thompson. She met her husband Everett Leo Scantlin at a square dance in the Midtown section of Oak Ridge in 1946 and they were married in October of 1947. A member of the Glenwood Baptist Church she loved taking care of her house and raising her family.
Shorty is preceded in death by her son Everett Leo Scantlin, Jr. “Hoppy” and her brother Robert Thompson. She survived by her husband of 61 years Everett Leo Scantlin, Sr. of Oak Ridge, her sister and brother-in-law Billie and Jack Kerrigan of Louisiana, several nieces and nephews, and adopted families Terry and Brenda Brewer, Steve and Pam Abernathy, Steve and Debbie McCracken, Eddie and Pat Valentine, Gary and Beverly Sawyer, Donna and Kenton Young, Mike and Michelle Ramsey, Barbara Spangler Burns, adopted grandchildren Sean Brewer and his wife Jenny, Taylor Abernathy, Andrew Abernathy, Brook McCracken, Sarah McCracken, Trey Valentine, Syd Valentine, Chris Sawyer, Kevin Sawyer, Justin Young, Joshua Young, Cori Ramsey, Taylor Ramsey, and Rich Burns.
Funeral services will be held Monday December 22, 2008 1:00pm in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Walton officiating and interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday December 22, 2008 11:00am to 1:00pm at the funeral home.
