Lois Virginia Thomas Wall, age 93, passed away on June
25, 2008 at NHC Oak Ridge.
Lois was born August 20, 1914 in El Dorado, Arkansas, the daughter of Ethie
Maye McClellan and Woodlief Atha Thomas. She graduated Valedictorian of El
Dorado High School in 1931, received a BA from Arkansas College (now Lyon
College) and an MA from Vanderbilt University in 1936. She married C.W.
“Pete” Wall in 1940.
Lois or “Honey” as she was known to family and friends, was a primary school
teacher for 32 years, teaching in Arkansas, Texas, and Nevada. She spent 20
summers on the staff in 9 Girl Scout camps in 6 states. She traveled
extensively visiting 50 states and all 7 continents. She and her lived for
16 years in Las Vegas, Nevada where he was employed in Security for Howard
Hughes. After the death of her husband in Dickinson, TX, Mrs. Wall moved to
Oak Ridge in 1988.
Lois was a member of First United Methodist Church’s Genesian Class, Delta
Kappa Gamma education society, and Life Cycle member of Delta Delta Delta
sorority. She was active with bridge groups in Oak Ridge Women’s Club and
Briarcliff Community Club.
She was preceded in death by her 2 brothers and Pete Wall, her husband of 46
years and son-in-law, J. Nicholas Terhune. Lois is survived by her sister
Elizabeth Webster of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughters, Marjorie Terhune of
Hopkinsville, KY and Jerralyn Luckman and husband, Kenneth F. Luckman of Oak
Ridge. Grandchildren include; Keith Luckman and wife, Laurie Goodwin, and
children, Riley and Connor, of Decatur, GA; Craig Luckman of Denver,
Christopher B. Luckman of Clinton, Clark Luckman of Chattanooga, Christina
and Kelly Luckman of Oak Ridge. Bradley Terhune and wife, Tracy Adkisson,
and children, Dempsey and Joan of Memphis; Kirk Terhune of Barstow, CA;
Virginia Terhune Faulk and husband, Scott Faulk of Washington, DC; Russell
and Jillian Terhune of Hopkinsville.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 7:00 to
9:00pm at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home in Oak Ridge. Lois will be buried
next to her parents and husband in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Little Rock,
Arkansas with a graveside service Saturday July 12, 2008. In lieu of
followers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Lois T. Wall
memorial fund at Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council. The fund will be used to
establish a flag display in the outdoor courtyard of the new Tanasi Council
Headquarters. Memorials should be mailed to Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council,
