Robert Charles Wallace, age 88, went home to be with his
Lord on November 4, 2008.
He was born in Muskeegee, Oklahoma on February 5, 1920 and grew up in Erwin,
Tennessee where he was an outstanding running back for his high school team.
He served in the United States Navy for six years, seeing action in the
Pacific during World War II. He married his childhood sweetheart on May 24,
1943. After his military service he moved his family to Oak Ridge where he
was employed by K-25 in the Engineering Department for some 30 years. He was
known for his compassionate heart and listening ear for every family member.
He will always be remembered for his beautiful whistling and singing that
was heard throughout the day.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, R.Y. and Selah McCall Wallace, a
sister, Beverly Honeycutt, an infant daughter, Gwendolyn, and son-in-law
George Metzel.
Greatly loved by and left to enjoy wonderful memories is the love of his
life, his wife of 65 years, Katharyn (Kaye) Crawford Wallace, a sister,
Gloria Wallace Boyd of Greenville, Tennessee, 4 daughters and husbands,
Bobbie Kaye and Jamie England, Karen Metzel, Diane and Dick Hochanadel, Jan
and David Kyle. 11 Grandchildren, Terri England, Alan Metzel (Jana), Dale
England (Becca), David England (Christi), Brad England (Maura), Bryan
Hochanadel (Faith), Leigh Longee (Joel), Chris Kyle, Doug Kyle (Chasity),
Kayla Kyle, 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2008 11:00am at
Christ Community Church, immediately followed by a graveside service at
Anderson Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the
Samaritan First International Relief P.O. Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607-3000
