Fred Young, age 77 of Oak Ridge passed away
Thursday August 14, 2008 at Methodist Medical Center. Born February 23, 1931
in Maryville, TN to John and Ruby Fagg Young both now deceased. He graduated
from Everett High School in Maryville. He was a veteran of the Korean War
and after serving his country for four years he became a business manager
for the W.T. Grant Company. He met Jean Dickenson and they married on
September 10, 1955.
He moved to Oak Ridge in 1977 and purchased Classic Cleaners. He was a
loving husband, father, grandfather and was a kind and special friend to
everyone. His grandchildren were a real joy to him. He loved the outdoors,
traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family. He never met a
stranger and was always giving a helping had to anyone he could. He loved
his customers and loved talking to them when they came by to drop off or
pick up their cleaning.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 52 years Jean Dickenson Young,
daughters Nancy Phillips and husband Les of Morristown, Lisa green and
husband Bobby of Oak Ridge, a special niece Starr Spivey and husband Joe of
Murfreesboro, TN, grandchildren; Lauren and Alissa Phillips, Emily and
Austin Green, Madison and Grant Spivey and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge
Funeral Home with Rev. Justin Phillips officiating and the Tennessee Army
National Honor Guard will give military honors. Interment will be private.
Memorials donations may be made to the Oak Ridge Boys and Girls Club. The
family would like to express their thanks to the Methodist Medical Center ER
and CCU doctors and nurses for their care for our husband and father.
