Avanell Beaty Arendt, age 84, of Oak Ridge passed away Saturday October 27, 2007 at Ft. Loudon Medical Center in Lenoir City, Tennessee.

Avanell Beaty Arendt was born on November 19, 1922 in Jennings, Florida of parents Jack and Thelma Beaty. Nell had three sisters and two brothers (all deceased) - Ivadine, Bertha, Violet, Jack and Thomas. Her family lived in northern Florida and Valdosta, Georgia, where Nell became a registered nurse. In the mid-40’s, she moved to Oak Ridge Tennessee to work as a nurse, where she met and married her husband John William Arendt (deceased April 22, 2002).

Nell was an avid bowler and bridge player and had many friends in Oak Ridge, living on Waddell Circle, Nasson Lane in Woodland, and Caldwell Drive in Emory Valley. She stopped nursing to raise her sons, but when they entered Oak Ridge High School, she resumed her nursing career in the Emergency Room at Oak Ridge Hospital where she became well known for her dry wit, compassion, and professionalism.

Nell is survived by son John Steven of Knoxville, grandson Andrew Steven Arendt and wife Rachel of Oak Ridge and grandson Scott William Arendt of Memphis where he is attending UT Medial School; and son Phillip William, granddaughter Lindsay Nell, and great-grandson Ethan McCabe of Oak Ridge.

Nell had a stroke in 1998 and has resided at the Baptist Healthcare Center in Lenoir City since May 2005 until she passed away in her sleep on Saturday October 27.

The family will receive friends Saturday November 3, 2007 from 10:00am to 12:00 pm with a graveside service following at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
