Robert Broome, age 77, of Oak Ridge passed away Monday October 8, 2007 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
Mr. Broome was born February 13, 1930 in Maysville, KY to the late Wilson A. and Christine Lairson Broome. He was a veteran of the United State Army having served in Japan and Korea. Mr. Broome moved to Oak Ridge in 1963 and was employed at K-25 as a machinist until his retirement in 1994. A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Robert was active in the past with the Knights of Columbus, the Oak Ridge Play House, and the Oak Ridge Chorus. Robert was a handyman that enjoyed working on everything using his extensive tool collection.
Preceded in death by his brother Will Broome, brother-in-laws Joe and Lee Marsili, and sister-in-law Sister Mary Lea Marsili he is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary Marsili Broome of Oak Ridge, four sons Robert A. Broome of Clinton, TN Duff D. Broome of Oliver Springs, TN, Paul E. Broome of Oak Ridge, TN, and Joe T. Broome and his wife Wendy of Kingston, three daughters Robin M. Livesay and her husband Kim of Midland, MI, Mary L. Phillips and her husband Ray of Laurel Grove, TN, and Frances Anne Crawford of Oak Ridge, TN, one brother Wayne Broome and his wife Joyce of Florence, KY, eleven grandchildren Scott Broome and his wife Jessica, Kim Livesay, Wade Livesay, PFC Joseph Broome, Phillip Broome, Victoria Broome, Amanda Phillips, Rachael Phillips, Jessica Byrge, Anthony Gardner, and Michael Crawford, and two great grandchildren Connor Broome and Rylee Livesay.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday October 11, 2007 11:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Bill McKenzie officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday October 10, 2007 6:00 to 8:00pm at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 8:00pm.
