Eleanor Dewey age 78 of Oak Ridge passed away Monday July 9, 2007 at Methodist Medical Center. Born January 17, 1929 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Jack D. and Nelle Ruth Hix Childress. Eleanor and her husband Fred J. Dewey, Sr. moved to Oak Ridge in 1951. She was a machine operator with Pic-Aire Corporation and retired with them after 18 years of service. She was a member of the Glenwood Baptist Church where she was very active in church activities. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and gardening. Preceded in death by her husband Fred J. Dewey, Sr., brothers Hugh D. Childress and Jack D. Childress.
Mrs. Dewey is survived by her son Fred J. Dewey, Jr. of Oak Ridge and daughter Deborah Crumley and husband James H. of Morristown, TN. She was also survived by two brothers Charles T. Childress and wife Athleen of Chattanooga, TN and Billy D. Childress and wife Joyce of South Lake Tahoe, CA. Grandchildren William Crumley and wife Megan, Jacqueline Crumley, and Alexander Crumley. One great-grandchild Leyton Crumley.
Funeral services will be Thursday July 12, 2007 2:00pm at Glenwood Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Walton officiating. Graveside services to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Glenwood Baptist Church Helping Ministries 200 S. Alabama Rd. Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
