Cora K. Elam, age 71, of Oak Ridge, TN died Friday October 12, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Cora was born in Centreville, AL on August 5, 1936 to Howard and Maybelle Kornegay, now deceased. She is also preceded in death by a brother Robert R. Kornegay. Cora was retired from ORNL Federal Credit Union in 1993 after 16 years. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Clinton, TN. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters; Debbie Shepherd and husband Scott of Oak Ridge, and Linda Elam of Mt. Juliet, TN. Grandchildren Angie Shepherd of Charlotte, NC, and Danielle Gallaher and husband Nick of Oak Ridge, great-grandchildren; Kaylie Gallaher and Jason Gallaher both of Oak Ridge. She is also survived by three brothers; Stanley Kornegay and wife Janie of Newnan, GA, George Kornegay and wife Sally of Clanton, AL and James Kornegay and wife Gay of Hot Springs, AR.
The funeral will be Tuesday October 16, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Dr. Don Long officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday October 15, 2007 and Tuesday from 1-2 at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the Methodist Medical Center hospital staff in CVSU, ICU, and 3 West for their care and compassion during the past month to our mother. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Holiday Bureau of Oak Ridge or Mt. Juliet Help Center, 3425B North Mt. Juliet Rd., Mt. Juliet, TN 37122.
