Carol Ann Rutherford Fulford, age 61, formerly of Oak
Ridge was carried by the good Lord to his Kingdom and Glory on April 25, 2007
in Coco, FL.
Carol was a child of God and a gentle soul full of caring. She was born in
Knoxville on August 23, 1945 to the late Walker “Rudd” and Jane Rutherford.
She moved to Oak Ridge in 1946 with her parents where she grew up and
attended the Oak Ridge Schools. Carol was a proud member of the Civil Air
Patrol in the early 1960’s, and was a professional hairdresser in Oak Ridge
and was selected to compete in hairdressing in the World’s Fair in New York
in the 1960’s. She moved to Florida in the late 1970’s with her husband
Vernon Eugene Grubb and their son Vernon Eugene Grubb, Jr. Carol later
married Charles Fulford of Florida and together they worked as property
managers. She became a grandmother to Charles’ grandchildren and was very
close to his daughter Gladys McDonald and her family. Carol later opened a
music production company name Cabaret where she managed several new groups
in the area, and was affectionately known as “Bunny/Sis”. She was a member
of the Grace Methodist Church in Coco, Florida and also of many prayer
groups as well. Carol had often visited back home to Oak Ridge to be with
family and friends until the last few years when illness prevented her
travel.
Carol is survived by her son Vernon Eugene Grubb of Coco, Florida, sister
and brother in law Sandy and Bill Elkins of Oak Ridge, brother and sister in
law Don and Bonnie Rutherford of Memphis, special mother/friend Elise
Johnson formerly of Oak Ridge now living in Batavia, Ohio, three nephews of
which she was very fond of Jim and Scott Elkins of Oak Ridge and Rob
Rutherford of Memphis, special niece Christy Keaton of Memphis, a longtime
sister in law Joyce Johnson of Oak Ridge, and a first cousin Barbara “Kay”
Lotz of Fairfield, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held Sunday May 27, 2007 1:00pm at First United
Methodist Church with Stella Roberts offering memories and prayers. Carol
will then be reunited with her mother and father at Oak Ridge Memorial Park
and in Heaven above.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Vitas Hospice
Group in Coco, Florida, and Wayne Hover, and to another special friend that
helped her a lot.
