Edward Harris, Jr., age 88 of Oak Ridge passed away Monday March 3, 2008 at Methodist Medical Center. Mr. Harris was born in Knoxville, TN to the late John Edward and Ethel Campbell Harris. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the Blessed Way Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three sons Eddie Ray Harris, Rodney Harris and Randy Joe Harris. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 68 years Dorothy Wilson Harris and by three sons; Don T. Harris and wife Donna of Lithia Springs, GA, Lee Harris and wife Rita of Douglasville, GA, and Timothy James Harris of Lenoir City, TN. He is also survived by five daughters; Ruby Vaughn and husband Gene of Oak Ridge, Estelee Henderson and husband Larry of Oak Ridge, Sandra Ferrell and husband Bob of Knoxville, Jewel Hutchins and husband Sherman of Knoxville, and Sherry Taylor and husband David of Stockbridge, GA. Mr. Harris is also survived by one sister Eva Hawkins of Knoxville and 30 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
The funeral will be Thursday March 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Don T. Harris officiating. Graveside services will be held Friday March 7, 2008 11:30am at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday March 5, 2008 from 7-9 at the funeral home.
