Hazel Choate Hobbs, 94 of Raleigh, N.C. (formerly
of Oak Ridge) passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living in Raleigh April 3,
2008.
She was born January 9, 1914 in Mobeetee, TX to Edgar Floyd and Bertha
Leeanna Rector Choate both now deceased. Besides her parents she was also
preceded in death by her husband Willard Earl Hobbs March 3, 1989, a sister
Mary Louise Choate Fields, brothers Ray and Richard Choate, two
grandchildren Jeffrey Daniel Hobbs and Matthew Davis Hobbs.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oak Ridge and was a school
teacher in Virginia and during WWII worked for the FBI in Washington where
she met and married her husband Willard Earl Hobbs in 1942. She was an
expert seamstress having made most of her clothing, loved quilting and was a
very devoted loving mother and grandmother.
She and Mr. Hobbs moved to Oak Ridge in 1948 (Mr. Hobbs worked for K-25 for
33 years retiring in 1981. Mrs. Hobbs moved from Oak Ridge in 1991 to New
Mexico and on to Raleigh in 2001 to be with her daughter and her family
Barbara Hobbs Treasure.
Mrs. Hobbs is survived by two sons; Earl Hobbs, Jr. and wife Ronda of Santa
Barbara, CA, Andrew Floyd Hobbs of West Palm Beach, FL and two daughters;
Elizabeth Hobbs Mogen and husband David of Ft. Collins, CO, and Barbara
Hobbs Treasure and husband Fred of Raleigh, N.C., one sister Helen Dickey of
West Palm Beach, FL, two brothers Rush Choate and wife Barbara Gainesville,
FL, and Page Choate and wife Louise of Atlanta, GA.
She is also survived by her grandchildren; Chris, Carrie, Andrea and Eric
Hobbs, and Emrys Treasure and fiancé Emily Britton and Trevor Treasure, and
by a former daughter-in-law Shirley Hobbs.
The funeral will be Sunday April 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Martin
Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Dipboye officiating. Interment will
follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2
Sunday at the funeral home.
