Joyce A. Johnson, age 65, of Oak Ridge passed away Friday February 1, 2008 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after a brief illness with cancer.
Joyce was born April 8, 1942 in Hawkins County to the late Richard and Edna Kirkpatrick Elkins and moved to Oak Ridge at a early age and was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. A wonderful mother Joyce’s family and friends were her life. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Red Hat Society, and the Oak Ridge Boat Club she was a wonderful cook and had been employed with the Jefferson Fountain for over 31 years. Joyce was a wonderful caring person always thinking of others and had a heart of gold. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband James “Jimmy” Johnson Joyce is survived by two daughters Tammi Jones and her husband Mitch of Oak Ridge and Teresa Johnson of Oak Ridge, two brothers Bill Elkins and his wife Sandy of Oak Ridge and George Elkins of Oak Ridge and one sister Frances Parker of Oak Ridge, three grandchildren Meagan Jones, Eric Johnson, and Chelsea Johnson, nephews Jimmy Elkins and Scott Elkins, nieces Tasha Lively, Dana Russell, and Lori Turner, and special friends Jan Anderson, Myrtle Chapman, Peggy Condra, Mary and Tim Dayton, Jack and Connie Greene, Sherry Jones, Zack Kidwell, Joann Sluss, Lynn Smith, and Jody Roach.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 5, 2008 8:00pm in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Steve McDonald officiating. Gravesides services will be held Wednesday February 6, 2008 1:00 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday February 5, 2008 6:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home.
