 Grover C. “Jack” Martin, Jr. age 83 of Oliver Springs, TN passed away Saturday September 1, 2007 at his residence. He was born to parents Rev. Grover C. Martin, Sr. and Lillie Agnes Teffetellar Martin June 6, 1924 in Rockwood, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sister Elaine Pemberton, his only grandson Michael Morse.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Rabble Cole Martin. They were married June 12, 1949, two daughters Susan Tyler of Oliver Springs, Linda Morse of Valdese, N.C., one sister Robbie Wyatt of Clinton, three granddaughters Michelle Tapp and husband Tim of Rockwood, Stephanie Robertson and husband Chuck of Knoxville, and Courtney Morse of Valdese, N.C. Also survived by four great-granddaughters, Rachel Cole McCamis, Sierra Cates, Madison Tapp, and Cheyenne Tapp, a niece Judy Pemberton Odenwelder and husband Jerry of Pennsylvania, three nephews Edward Bo Pemberton and wife Susan of Franklin, TN, Steven Wyatt of Clinton and David Wyatt and wife Rose of Knoxville.
He was a member of New Mountain View Church where he served as church treasurer for 24 years. He was a Deacon Ordained in his 20’s. He retired from Martin Marietta in 1990. He was a veteran of World War II and enjoyed gardening and working on equipment.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Michael Morse Scholarship Fund, Waldesion Presbyterian Church Valdese, N.C. 28690 or New Mountain View Baptist Church in Oliver Springs or Batley Baptist Church Clinton, TN.
The family would like to thank everyone that took care of him at Life Care Center of Wartburg, TN, Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, Priority Home Health and St. Mary’s hospice and for every act of kindness from his friends and neighbors.
The funeral will be Tuesday September 4, 2007 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Copeland officiating. Interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
