Margaret (Peg) A. McNally, 90, of Oak Ridge died Monday May 7, 2007 at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

Born August 10, 1916 in Boston, Mass, she was the daughter of Francis Edward McKenna and Mary Anne Finnegan. Peg worked at the Appeal Board of the Registry of Deeds during World War II. Peg was a lifeguard and avid swimmer. She attended Boston College and then married Dr. James Rand McNally, Jr. in November of 1942.

The McNally’s moved to Oak Ridge in 1948 from Dedham, Mass. The Alexander Hotel was their first stop with three little ones and one
on the way. Their first home was on Taylor Road where Peg began a lifetime friendship with her neighbor Eileen Cunningham. Peg and Rand then moved to Norman Lane where they raised a family of seven. Her favorite memory was “103 Norman”. In the 1950’s her life was filled with children, games, memorable summer nights, catching lightning bugs and swimming.

In addition to raising a family, Peg’s activities included a Bridge Club that met for 50 years and a sewing club. Peg survived being a cub scout den mother. She was active at St. Mary’s Church and volunteered at the museum and in the community.

Peg’s last years were spent vacationing with her children now spread all over the country. Recently when returning to Oak Ridge, 90 year old Peg fondly referred to Oak Ridge as her “Home” with a big smile on her face.

Peg is survived by three daughters: Mary Wiesbrock and her husband Fred, Therese McNally, Peggy Findley,and her husband Dave, and four sons: State Sen. Randy McNally and his wife Janice, Pete McNally and his wife Kathy, Butch McNally and his wife Rhonda and Michael McNally and his wife, Rosie.

Mrs. McNally is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Melissa Stubbs, Maggie McNally, Amy, Diana, Mark, and Katy Wiesbrock, Scott and Patrick , McNally, Margaret and Martha Wright, Stephen and Michael McNally, and Claire Findley; four great grandchildren ; Haley and Trent Stubbs, Morgan McNally, and Shane Frank and five step-grandchildren Andy and Chris Davis, Sandra and Marco Villareal, and Kim Green and one step-great grandchild Shelby Davis.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Peg Meekins, Kathy Casilli, Carol Moore, and Jack Sheehan.

Mrs. McNally’s sister and brother, Mary Sheehan and Francis Edward McKenna, died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 11 at Martin Funeral Home in Oak Ridge. A Rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. The funeral Mass will be Saturday, May 12 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oak Ridge. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
