Betty Jane Ward, age 75, of Oak Ridge passed away Sunday
November 4, 2007 at Methodist Medical Center.
Jane was born June 12, 1932 to the late Kernal and Anna Lee Gilmore Duncan
in the Wheat Community in Roane County. She attended the New Fairview
Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. Her family stated she was a good cook and
made homemade fudge which she made especially at Christmas and gave as gifts
to family and friends. She had worked as a nanny for Dr. John and Diane
Wooten for about 20 years.
Preceded in death by her husband Rev. Dana Ward on August 1, 2003, her
brother Charles Rather, and her sister Edna May Jenkins. She is survived by
her son Harold Simmons and his wife Sherry of Oliver Springs, grandchildren
Steven Simmons, Rachel Roberts ( Jane was expecting the birth of her first
great grandchild this month who will be named Emma Lee Roberts), brother
George Rather of Oak Ridge, step children Harvey Lee Ward, Larry Dana Ward
and wife Linda Gayle, Jerry Allen Ward, Genevieve Compton and husband Harold
Dean, Patricia Kees and husband William “Bill” all of Oliver Springs, Dortha
Jennings and husband Danny of Clinton, several step grandchildren, step
great grandchildren, and step great grandchildren, sister-in-law Margaret
Rather Parker, cousin Jane Rather, and several special church friends both
here and in Crossville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 7, 2007 7:00pm in the
chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. John Edwards officiating.
Graveside services will be held Thursday November 8, 2007 11:00am at the
Wheat Cemetery in Roane County. The family will receive friends Wednesday
from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home.
