William “JR” R. Young, age 67, of Oak Ridge passed away
Sunday July 22, 2007 at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Young was born March 10, 1940 in Maryville, Tennessee to the late George
and Mary Reed Young. He was a Boy Scout growing up and loved sports
especially Tennessee Football and the Lady Vols. He attended Pleasant Hill
Baptist Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church as his health permitted and
had been employed as a brick mason with the Bricklayers and Allied Craft
workers in Detroit, MI.
Preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth “Wanda” Young on October 2, 2006, a
sister Ella Sieber, and brothers: Jimmy, Roy, Buster, and Kyle Young, and a
step-daughter-in-law Debra Kennedy.
Mr. Young is survived by his step-children: James Kennedy of Memphis, TN,
Mitch Jones and wife Tammi of Oak Ridge, Debbie Duvall Mooney and husband
Brian of Crossville, Tennessee, Cammie Jones and husband John O’Connell of
Woodstock, Georgia, brothers and sisters; Charlie Young, Bailey and wife
Ascella Young, Walter and wife Lillian Young, Albert and wife Jean Young,
Inez Lane all of Clinton, Georgia and husband Ralph Hackworth, of Lenoir
City, Bonnie and husband Halmond Davis of Knoxville. He is also survived by
6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday August 1, 2007 at 7:00 pm in the chapel of
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Father Bill McKenzie officiating.
Interment will be Thursday at 10:00 am at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations may be made to St.
Mary’s Catholic Church building fund.
